## Summary

The University of Edinburgh, a central purchasing body situated at Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, has recently completed a tender process for the "NCA30930 Nikon Upgrade," aimed at enhancing live imaging systems for medical research. This procurement, classified under the goods category with a CPV code of 38510000, followed a limited procurement method, which was an award procedure without prior publication of a call for competition. The contract, valued at £359,869 and signed on 27th August 2020, involved the acquisition of a new stand, laser bed, and bespoke spinning disk attachment from Nikon UK, thereby ensuring the existing imaging system is upgraded to meet current research needs.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in medical equipment upgrades, particularly those that can provide innovative imaging solutions or similar high-tech goods tailored for research purposes. Companies with expertise in niche medical imaging technologies or those that can collaborate effectively with leading manufacturers, like Nikon UK, would be well-suited to compete for similar contracts in the future. Engaging with public contracts like this one can enhance business growth and establish partnerships within the academic and healthcare sectors.

## Notice

To enable live imaging Nikon have recommended the system be upgraded and adjusted to meet the expressed IGMM research need.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

Here we are purchasing a new stand, laser bed, PC and bespoke spinning disk attachment - termed SORA by Nikon to bring our existent system up to date. Although the SORA enables fast live imaging the resolution of the SORA at 140nm is slightly less than our existent N-SIM which can image to 115nm resolution. Therefore we are proposing to attach the SORA to our current system building a hybrid, which will be unique in the UK and will form part of the Nikon Centre of Excellence based at the IGMM.

### Procurement Information

The upgrading of an existing Nikon system meets the best value possible and can only be upgarded by the manufacturer
