## Summary

The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service, located in Edinburgh, is responsible for a public procurement project titled "Plasmapheresis Collection Systems". This procurement falls under the goods category, focusing on medical devices within the healthcare industry. The contracting process has recently progressed to the 'Contract Update' stage, with key contract details updated on 25th June 2025. The contract, initially signed on 8th December 2020, has an active status and spans a duration of 1080 days. This project aims to achieve self-sufficiency in immunoglobulin production through volunteer plasma donations. The procurement was executed using an open procedure, reflecting transparency and competitive engagement among suppliers, with the procurement process overseen through various compliance and regulatory frameworks, including the EU Open Journal scheme.

This procurement project holds significant opportunities for businesses in the medical and health technology industries, particularly those experienced in supplying medical and plasmapheresis machines. Companies that can provide compatible consumables and maintenance services for existing equipment will find this contract beneficial for growth. Large-scale suppliers like Fresenius Kabi Limited, already involved as a supplier, highlight the project's scale and potential for high-volume transactions. Businesses capable of meeting technical requirements and contributing innovative solutions aligned with UK blood safety guidelines will be well-suited to compete in such initiatives, fostering sector growth and expanding their market presence. This procurement not only supports the immediate needs of the Scottish healthcare system but also positions participating companies as key contributors to a critical area of public health infrastructure.
