## Summary

The procurement process, initiated by Heriot-Watt University, revolves around the acquisition of a dual Sigma 7 haptic device, a specialist robotic equipment designed for use in micro and nano manipulation, medical robotics, and virtual simulations. This contract, awarded on 13 October 2020, falls under the goods category and was conducted through an open procurement method. The contract value is CHF 146,600 and was awarded to Force Dimension. The delivery location is specified as the Riccarton Campus, Edinburgh, UK.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in the production of specialised robotic equipment, particularly those with a focus on high-resolution haptic devices. Companies that are adept in advanced engineering or technological solutions may find this contract attractive, as it caters to a niche market with limited competition. Given the specific and technical nature of the product, suppliers with relevant expertise and innovative capabilities would be well-positioned to engage in similar future procurement opportunities.

## Notice

Dual Sigma 7 haptic device characterized by a large workspace, high resolution, full gravity compensation, driftless calibration at 4kHz sampling rate, suitable for both micro and nano manipulators, medical robotics, virtual simulations and teleoperation consoles.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

Under Regulation Reg 6(1)(b)(ii) of the Procurement (Scotland) Regulations 2016, a contracting authority may award a contract without competition based on the following justification: Competition is absent for technical reasons (only if it is not caused by artificial narrowing down of the parameters of the procurement and no reasonable alternative or substitute exists) Explanation: This is a specialist piece of robotic equipment and there are no other suppliers available in the market to supply this type of equipment in the form factor required. The dual Sigma .7 haptic device is characterized by a large workspace, high resolution, full gravity compensation, driftless calibration at 4kHz sampling rate, suitable for both micro and nano manipulators, medical robotics, virtual simulations and teleoperation consoles. The arm haptic device provides torques sensing, 1kHz control rate, 3-dof translation (active), 3-dof rotation (active), 1-dof grasping (active) and software API + drivers. The principal purpose of the contract is to acquire goods in connection with research undertaken by the University.
