## Summary

The University of the West of Scotland has recently completed the procurement process for the AGATA Detection Capsules, valued at £537,075. This procurement, classified under the goods category, involved the purchasing of three capsules used for gamma-ray spectroscopy in nuclear physics. The procurement method was limited, as only Mirion Technologies (Canberra UK) Ltd was the technically approved supplier for this project. The contract was signed on 18 November 2020, following an award announcement, with the delivery location specified for Paisley, UK.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses operating in the scientific and educational equipment sector, especially those specialised in nuclear instrumentation and related technologies. Companies that possess the capability to meet stringent technical specifications for high-performance detection equipment may find pathways to collaborate with institutions like the University of the West of Scotland. In addition, firms that can demonstrate quality and cost-effectiveness in their bids may benefit as the demand for specialised educational goods continues to grow.

## Notice

The University intends to purchase three capsules of the AGATA detector, a device for gamma-ray spectroscopy in nuclear physics.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

AGATA comprises a number of detection units, each made of three HPGe detectors in semi-coaxial configuration sharing a common cryostat. Each crystal has a pyramid shape:the front-end features a section shaped like an irregular hexagon but the opposite (rear) end has still a cylindrical shape. The crystals have three slightly different shapes. Their external surface is electrically segmented into 36 parts, through 6 longitudinal segmentations and 6 transversal segmentations. Each crystal is mounted in a vacuum-tight capsule. This order is for three capsules corresponding to the three different shapes of a single triple-detector unit. The performance and manufacturing specifications are tightly defined to match the requirements of the AGATA detector and its spectroscopic performance.

### Procurement Information

The procurement falls outside the scope of application of the directive as Mirion are currently the only technically approved supplier for the AGATA project.
