## Summary

North Ayrshire Council has recently awarded a contract titled "Treatment of Post-Consumer Mixed Papers and Cardboard" for services related to the management of kerbside paper and cardboard collections from approximately 64,000 households. This procurement process, categorised under 'services', was conducted through an open procedure and the successful supplier is Saica Natur. The contract involves an estimated 6,000 tonnes of material over an initial 12-month period, with potential extensions for an additional two years. The area of service delivery is centred in Shewalton, Irvine, and the contract was formally signed on 20th November 2020, following the procurement initiation in December 2020.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses engaged in waste management, recycling services, or related logistics. Suppliers with expertise in the treatment of recyclable materials or those who can demonstrate innovative approaches to improving recycling quality may find this contract particularly appealing. As the council aims to enhance the quality of collected materials and is open to pre-sorting, businesses capable of offering value-added services in material processing and customer engagement will be well-positioned to compete effectively for future tenders in this domain.

## Notice

North Ayrshire Council provides a kerbside paper/card collection service to approximately 64,000 households on the mainland and Cumbrae. Below is an overview of the service from April 2019. Following the implementation of our new service delivery model there is a requirement for a contract for the treatment of Post-Consumer Mixed Papers and Cardboard (estimate 6000 tonnes). This is a requirement for 12 months and potentially two further periods of 12 months, to allow an improvement in the quality of material to be delivered through an engagement process with customers. The Council's requirement is to be delivered for a fixed income/charge rate for each period. The Council will be delivering a quality improvement programme over the coming months to reduce non-target material within this stream and reserves the right to pre-sort the materials (to remove obvious contaminants which can't be recycled) at any point during the Contract, prior to the delivery or collection of materials by contractors.
