The Council is focused on developing a commercial supply of hydrogen to support its requirements to decarbonise transport, heat and industrial applications, but also to establish the opportunity for the City and the region to export hydrogen to the UK and EU markets. Aberdeen has an initial requirement through the Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub, a programme of investments in renewable hydrogen production, to supply Aberdeen's bus and public sector fleets. The initial demand will be 500kg/day with demand forecasted to increase to 3.5 tonnes of hydrogen by 2030 to meet potential transport uses - road, rail, marine - as well as for heat and industry applications. The initial phase of the Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub is supported by the Scottish Government's Energy Transition Fund.
