## Summary

The National Museums Scotland, based in Edinburgh, UK, has completed the procurement process for a new book scanner to enhance its research library collections. This procurement, which falls under the goods category, was conducted through an open procedure, inviting all interested suppliers to tender. The procurement was initiated on 16th February 2021, with a submission deadline of 23rd February 2021. Covergold Limited emerged as the awarded supplier, winning a contract valued at £17,700, projected to enhance the scanning of rare documents while supporting invaluable research contributions. The facility will allow for the digitisation of significant materials, ensuring wider accessibility for the research community.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in technologically advanced goods, particularly those versed in providing imaging and scanning solutions tailored for cultural and research institutions. Companies that focus on digitisation services, archival preservation, and related technologies will find this procurement particularly relevant. The successful implementation of a book scanner not only enables the National Museums Scotland to maintain its extensive collection but also opens doors for suppliers to establish long-term relationships with public sector clients, enhancing their market presence and reputation within a vital industry sector.

## Notice

National Museums Scotland is seeking to procure an in-house book scanning facility for our research library collections. Located in our Research Library at Chambers street, Edinburgh, this will enable library staff to digitise items from the library's special collections collection - rare books, archives, and manuscripts - on a large scale and to a high resolution. The Library has a large and unique special collection gathered over the past 240 years - including the archive of the museum, the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, and key Scottish naturalists - much of it of significant importance to the wider research community due to their unique nature, scarcity or provenance. A digital book scanner will allow the library to make this collection accessible to that community as it gives us the ability to digitise more of the material than we have ever been able to do previously.
