## Summary

The University of Edinburgh has successfully completed a tender for the supply of an MRI Compatible Incubator, specifically for the Large Animal Research and Imaging Facility (LARIF) at their campus in Roslin, Midlothian. The procurement, valued at £199,990, was conducted through a limited method without prior publication due to the unique technical requirements of the project. The award was finalised on 10 March 2021, and the contract is currently active. This tender falls under the goods category, specifically related to the healthcare and education sector, showcasing the university's commitment to advancing pre-clinical research in neonatal care.

This opportunity presents significant potential for businesses, particularly those specialising in medical technology and equipment. Companies that can innovate or adapt existing products to meet stringent technical specifications may find themselves well-positioned to compete in future tenders. As demonstrated by the successful bidder, Belmont Medical Technologies Ltd, firms with the capabilities to deliver tailored solutions in high-demand sectors like medical research and healthcare are likely to thrive in this marketplace.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

Under Regulation Reg 33(1)(b)(ii) of the Public Contracts (Scotland) Regulations 2015, a contracting authority may use the negotiated procedure without the prior publication in the case of a public contract, based on the following justification: Competition is absent for technical reasons (only if it is not caused by artificial narrowing down of the parameters of the procurement and no reasonable alternative or substitute exists);

### Procurement Information

We require an MRI compatible neonatal incubator for use in pre-clinical neonatal neuroprotection studies at the Large Animal Research and Imaging Facility (LARIF), University of Edinburgh. These studies are of a highly specialised nature; the subject requires 72h intensive care support and within this period, 2 MRI scans. Belmont Medical technologies are able to supply the Lammers Medical Incubator. The company have adapted the size and shape of the incubator interior to enable our 72h studies to be performed safely. Adaptations include the ability to administer constant anesthesia over the 72h and space to fit a cooling/temperature regulating blanket. The company also provide an integrated Radiofrequency coil for use in the Siemens MRI system at the LARIF. There are no other MRI compatible neonatal incubators that can be adapted to fit the needs of our pre-clinical studies or who can provide the radiofrequency coil that can be used with the Siemens MRI system.
