## Summary

NHS Lanarkshire is currently engaged in the planning stage of the "Monklands Hospital Replacement Project," a significant initiative within the health sector, located in Airdrie, UK. The project, valued at £350 million, aims to replace the aging University Hospital Monklands to address operational and financial challenges associated with its long design life. Key details include a planned future notice date on 1st June 2022, and specific considerations for the project's energy solutions, aiming for an all-electric design that meets necessary healthcare standards. The procurement method initiated is through a tender approach, highlighting a structured engagement with potential suppliers to prepare for the upcoming phases of the contract.

This tender presents considerable opportunities for businesses in construction, engineering, and energy solutions, particularly those offering innovative technologies for sustainability and efficiency. Companies focused on design, installation, and maintenance of healthcare facilities, especially those that can provide solutions to achieve operational energy targets and a digital monitoring system for hospital performance, would be well-suited to participate. Engaging with NHS Lanarkshire’s market consultation could prove beneficial for businesses seeking to expand their services in the healthcare sector and contribute to the construction of a modern facility at Wester Moffat.

## Notice

University Hospital Monklands has greatly exceeded its design life which poses many operational and financial challenges. In early 2016 NHS Lanarkshire announced its intention to replace or refurbish the current facilities at University Hospital Monklands with new hospital accommodation of sufficient quality and clinical functionality. Following option appraisal exercises and extensive public consultation a site at Wester Moffat, Airdrie was confirmed as the preferred location for the new Hospital in January 2021. With the Operational Energy Target and desire to reduce reliance on fossil fuels the design of energy solutions for heating and hot water places significant challenges on the project. An all-electric hospital if achievable to meet the healthcare design standards and required resilience would require and electrical load of between 12.5 - 19MVA.

To support the design strategy for the project and consideration of suitable digital and energy technologies to support achieving the OET the Board are welcoming engagement with the market to identify potential solutions for consideration. The Board have already engaged net zero / sustainability advisors and designers and are looking to receive market engagement feedback from manufacturers, suppliers, installers, energy companies etc and to respond on provisions of how primary base loading can be met, how resilience can be achieved to ensure 100% load demand is always maintained, and how digital systems can support ongoing monitoring and management of optimum performance.
