## Summary

The procurement process for the project titled "Properties in Care and the British Empire" was conducted by Historic Environment Scotland, located in Edinburgh, UK. This initiative falls under the services category, specifically focusing on Built Heritage, Conservation and Tourism. The tender is currently active and was originally initiated on 4th October 2021, with the deadline for bids set for 27th October 2021 at 12:00 PM GMT. This process employed an open procurement method, allowing all interested parties to submit their proposals electronically.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses within the heritage, historical research, and conservation sectors, particularly those capable of conducting desk-based surveys and historical analyses. Companies that have experience in examining imperial connections and can effectively document historical timelines would be especially well-suited to compete. The project’s focus on family histories and imperial legacies may appeal to firms with expertise in cultural heritage and social history research, potentially driving business growth in these specialised areas.

## Notice

The aim of this project is to investigate and understand the imperial connections of the 336 Properties in Care (PICs), by situating the historical landowners within the activities of the British Empire, including the transatlantic slave economy and other colonial activities. This project will take the form of an 18-month external commission, during which a desk-based survey of the PICs will be undertaken, with the aim of creating family history timelines revealing imperial connections of the owners of the properties prior to their coming into care.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

The aim of this project is to investigate and understand the imperial connections of the 336 Properties in Care (PICs), by situating the historical landowners within the activities of the British Empire, including the transatlantic slave economy and other colonial activities. The proposed project will directly address two of the research questions from the HES Research Strategy, which have been identified by the HES Research Forum as being priorities in 2020-21. Historic Environment Scotland requires a detailed report that reveals the legacies of the British Empire across the HES Property in Care estate.

Renewal: HES may extend for up to a further 12 months.
