## Summary

Moray Council, based in Elgin, has initiated a public procurement process titled "18/0622 Shougle Bridge - Strengthening and Refurbishment Works" within the works industry category. The procurement is currently at the Award stage, with the contract valued at £465,810.06. The significant works involve essential repairs and enhancements to Shougle Bridge, which is crucial for maintaining access to Glenlatterach. The contract was signed on 29th March 2022, representing the culmination of a structured open procedure aimed at ensuring competitive bidding for this critical infrastructure project.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for construction and engineering companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), that specialise in civil engineering and public works. Businesses that have demonstrated experience in similar infrastructure projects, with proven capabilities in structural repair and refurbishment, would be particularly well-suited to compete for this contract. Given the council's commitment to supporting local suppliers through initiatives like the Supplier Development Programme, this is an opportune time for eligible businesses to engage with public sector contracts and grow their operations within the region.

## Notice

Shougle Bridge carries the U118E unclassified road over Shougle Burn. Moray Council has a statutory obligation to maintain the Public Road Network, of which Shougle Bridge is a critical structure. The bridge provides sole access to Glenlatterach, including multiple dwellings, Glenlatterach Water Treatment Works and Glenlatterach Farm. There is no other Public Road access to Glenlatterach. Gradual deterioration has led to outwards movement of the side walls and cracking due to overloading of the arch barrel. As the bridge provides sole access, sudden closure of the bridge would be unacceptable. The works proposed aims to remediate the deterioration and provide additional strengthening. This will involve rebuilding the deformed side walls and replacing the fill material over the arch with concrete to strengthen both the arch barrel and side walls, protecting against future deterioration.
