## Summary

The Scottish Government is conducting a procurement process for the purchase of 69kHz acoustic tags, aimed at facilitating a study on salmon post-smolt movements in a sea loch on the west coast of Scotland. This tender, titled "Award of Purchase of 69khz acoustic tags (MS-P-0141)," falls within the goods category, particularly focusing on marine equipment and surveillance systems. The procurement is currently in the award stage, with the tender period having started on 25 February and concluded on 31 March 2022. The total contract value awarded amounts to £39,030.70, and the successful supplier for this contract is Thelma Biotel AS, based in Trondheim, Norway.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialised in marine equipment and surveillance technology, particularly those capable of providing acoustic tracking systems or related services. Companies that manufacture or supply acoustic tags, receivers, or any associated marine research equipment would be well-positioned to compete for similar future contracts, leveraging their expertise in marine ecology or environmental monitoring. Engaging in this procurement process could help expand businesses into new markets, particularly those related to governmental and environmental research initiatives.

Marine Scotland invites bids for the purchase of 69khz acoustic tags.Marine Scotland Science is conducting a study examining salmon post-smolt movements in a sea loch on the west coast of Scotland using 69khz acoustic tags. The study will use Thelma Biotel acoustic receivers (TBR 700) strategically placed near rivers and loch pinch points to examine salmon and sea trout smolt migratory behaviours. In addition to tags, there is a requirement for sentinel tags transmitting 69khz to determine receiver/ tag efficiency over time. This study will build on previous acoustic tracking studies conducted in the loch.
