## Summary

The procurement process involves the University of Edinburgh, which has completed a tender for the purchase of a 'Cell Sorter DRI' to enhance neuroscience research capabilities at the UK Dementia Research Institute. This procurement is categorised under goods and utilised a limited procurement method, omitting prior publication of a call for competition. The contract was signed on 11th February 2022 for a total value of £215,056. The location of the buying organisation is in Edinburgh, UK, with procurement efforts concentrated on advancing quality research. The relevant documentation can be found linked within the procurement records.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses in the biotechnology and medical equipment sectors, particularly those that specialise in innovative laboratory technologies. Companies with experience in producing advanced sorting machinery or similar research equipment will be well-suited to compete in this space. Given the unique technical requirements outlined in the procurement rationale, suppliers with a focus on cell viability and advanced sorting methodologies may particularly benefit from future tenders in related areas of neuroscience research and development.

### Procurement Information

Unlike a conventional fluorescence-activated sorter, the Miltenyi MACSQuant Tyto uses an ultra-fast sorting valve, operates at low pressure, does not involve applying a charge to the cells, nor any compression/decompression of cells. Therefore, the Tyto is very gentle to cells which increases viability. This is very important for brain cells such as astrocytes which are worked on heavily in UK DRI Edinburgh labs.
