## Summary

The James Hutton Institute, located in Dundee, has recently completed a tender process for the procurement of Open Path CH4 Analysers, a key item for scientific research in the environmental sector. The procurement method adopted was limited, meaning there was no prior publication of a call for competition. The contract was awarded on 16 May 2022, with a total value of £249,235.80 (GBP), and specifically caters to the need for measuring methane exchange in peatland ecosystems, an important factor in carbon budgeting. The delivery of the analysers will take place at the James Hutton Institute's site in Aberdeen.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, particularly those involved in the manufacture and supply of scientific instrumentation and environmental monitoring equipment. Companies specializing in cutting-edge technology for research and development, especially those that can provide off-grid power solutions, would be particularly well-suited to compete in similar future tenders. Engaging with contracts related to environmental research not only fosters business growth but also contributes to the advancement of sustainability practices, which is increasingly important in today's market.

### Procurement Information

Methane is a key component of the carbon budget in peatland ecosystems. To measure methane exchange over peatlands we have to use off-grid power sources which limits the instrumentation that can be employed. The LI-7700 is the only instrument on the market that can measure methane exchange at the concentrations we observe and can run on our power systems
