## Summary

The Argyll and Bute Council is planning a procurement process for the "Craighouse to Corran Sands, Isle of Jura Innovative Feasibility and Concept Design" project. This initiative will focus on developing an active travel route between the main settlement in Craighouse and the residential areas of Corran Sands and Knockrome. As part of the project, which is classified under the services category, the council aims to address requirements outlined in the Places for Everyone framework. Key dates include a projected future notice on 8th June 2022, with the procurement process currently in the planning stage and set to occur on the Isle of Jura.

This project presents significant opportunities for businesses in the fields of civil engineering, urban planning, and sustainable transport solutions, particularly those with expertise in innovative design and low-cost interventions. Companies that specialise in active travel infrastructure, such as cycling and walking paths, will find this tender particularly relevant. By contributing to this project, businesses can showcase their skills in enhancing rural transport connectivity, potentially benefiting local residents and visitors alike, while also positioning themselves for similar future contracts in rural and community-driven projects across Scotland.

## Notice

This project will deliver an innovative, suitable and attractive active travel route between the main settlement and facilities in Craighouse and the significant residential area at Corran Sands/Knockrome. This is the initial stage of developing this project and will complete the requirements of Places for Everyone Stages 1 (Feasibility) and Stage 2 (Concept Design). This project will develop a package of innovative, low cost interventions that will improve the actual and perceived safety and attractiveness of active travel (walking, wheeling and cycling) along the A846 road corridor between Craighouse, the Corran Sands and the Knockrome road junction, on the Isle of Jura. A creative approach, which responds to the constraints and opportunities of the unique context, is required in order to create a deliverable, low cost package of solutions. The innovative solutions developed will provide a basis for low cost solutions to encourage active travel in other rural locations, which will be key to encouraging wider uptake of active travel across Scotland. This project will benefit both residents and visitors alike by providing better and safer access to a number of key trip generators that lie on, adjacent or close to the proposed route. These include the Small Isles Primary School, Jura Distillery, Jura Hotel, Jura Service Point, Community Shop, Community Hall, Church, Playpark and the majority of dwellings on Jura. Therefore, this project will deliver a route that would be used by the whole population for various everyday walking, wheeling and cycling journeys.
