## Summary

The Falkirk Council has awarded a contract for the provision of Short Term Assessment Service to multiple suppliers, including Summerdale Care Home, Care UK Community Partnerships Ltd., ION Care and Support Services Ltd, and HC-One Limited. The contract, with a value of £2,800,000, was signed on 23rd November 2022. The procurement process was initiated using an open procedure and falls under the services category. The service focuses on providing rehabilitation, recovery, and recuperation in a Care Home environment within Falkirk Council's area.

This tender for the provision of Short Term Assessment Service by Falkirk Council presents opportunities for Care Home providers, social care organisations, and healthcare service providers specializing in rehabilitation and recovery services. The contract aims to reduce delayed discharges from hospitals by offering appropriate care and support in a Care Home setting. Suitable businesses would be those capable of delivering high-quality care services in the Falkirk Council area, meeting the specified quality standards and willing to engage in a framework agreement.

## Notice

Delayed discharges are rising to unacceptable levels due to care, including care at home, being unavailable. Remaining unnecessarily in hospital after treatment is complete can lead to rapid deterioration in physical and mental well-being, particularly in people with dementia. In addition, the occupancy of acute hospital beds by those who no longer need clinical care means these beds will not be available to those who do need them. The aim of the service is to support significant reductions in the number of people delayed in discharge from hospital until more appropriate care and support is available. Short term assessment care will have a clear focus on rehabilitation, recovery and recuperation in a Care Home environment within the Falkirk Council area.
