## Summary

Forestry and Land Scotland has recently completed the procurement process for the contract titled "IVC Operations - North Region" in the services category within the environmental protection industry. The tender involved the management of invasive vegetation in the west of Scotland, part of Scottish Government's rainforest restoration commitment. The procurement method used was a limited procedure without prior publication, resulting in a contract award to Boreal Forestry. The contract, with a value of £2,530,000, was signed on 13th December 2022, and it will be active until 30th September 2026.

This procurement offers an opportunity for businesses, particularly those focused on environmental services, to engage in projects related to invasive vegetation management. SMEs in the forestry and conservation sector could find this contract suitable for business growth. Given the focus on environmental protection and restoration, companies with expertise in vegetation control and conservation could be well-suited to compete and contribute to the Scottish rainforest restoration initiative.

Herbaceous species include all specified noxious weeds, Japanese knotweed and shall include other species such as; Gunnera, Balsam and Skunk Cabbage. The majority of the work in the west of Scotland under this tender forms part of the Scottish Government's commitment to restoring Scotland's rainforests. It is therefore the first stage of a longer term programme of work, which will in due course involve similar work on private- and third-sector land, in addition to the national forests and land.
