## Summary

The public procurement process for the contract titled "RSPB Lochwinnoch: Tolmiea menziesii treatment with steam_May 2023" is being conducted by RSPB Scotland, a charity organisation based in Lochwinnoch, UK. The procurement falls under the industry category of environmental protection. The contract involves the treatment of an invasive plant species at RSPB Lochwinnoch using steam as a control method. The tender stage is currently active with the submission deadline set for May 29, 2023.

This tender represents an opportunity for businesses offering services in environmental management and conservation. Companies specialising in invasive species control and environmental protection methods would be well-suited to compete for this contract. The contract is expected to be carried out at RSPB Lochwinnoch in September/October 2023, providing a specific timeframe for interested businesses to plan and deliver their services effectively.

## Notice

Tolmiea menziesii is an Invasive Non-Native Species of vascular plant which has been recently introduced to the UK. Left unmanaged it outcompetes native flora, forming a dense monoculture which leads to local loss of native species and consequently harm to the woodland ecosystem. Unfortunately, this plant is now present at RSPB Lochwinnoch, so we are seeking a supplier to carry out management works to reduce or remove it. Cutting is not appropriate as the plant easily regrows from small fragments, and we do not wish to use a herbicide or plastic covering unless necessary due to the negative impact on other wildlife. We are therefore seeking to trial the use of steam as a control method, with single and double applications used in different areas to enable us to monitor the effectiveness of each for future use. RSPB expects these works to be carried out in September/October 2023
