1.1 Dumfries and Galloway Council is working closely alongside its partners South of Scotland Enterprise, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, the site owner and the site operators Magnox to ensure a sustainable economic legacy is delivered for the 210 + hectare, former nuclear power station site at Chapelcross. 1.2 The future of Chapelcross is centred on clean energy generation, storage, distribution, research and use with a particular focus on renewable hydrogen production. Renewable hydrogen will play a significant role in our energy transition to net zero, with site acting as a Regional Hydrogen Energy Hub for the South of Scotland.
