## Summary

The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) has recently completed the "SPS-02004 Framework for Softwood Timber," a multi-supplier framework agreement for supplying various timber products to prisons across Scotland. This procurement process, classified under public order and safety, encompasses the delivery of softwood timber (primarily redwood and whitewood) to multiple prison workshops for the production of timber goods. The framework supports prisoner rehabilitation by providing meaningful employment and training opportunities while in custody. Key participants include awardees HUWS GRAY T/A PDM, James Donaldson Timber Limited, and National Timber Group Scotland Ltd T/A Rembrand Timber & Thornbridge Sawmills, with the contract signed on 2nd September 2024. The procurement method used was an open procedure, covering locations under the UKM region, with electronic submissions facilitated via PCS-Tender.

This tender creates substantial opportunities for growth, particularly for businesses in the wood and timber supply industry. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the capability to supply quality timber products will find this framework suitable, as evidenced by the awards given to SMEs in this sector. Companies can expect recurring business from the SPS, opening additional sites over the contract period. By entering this framework, businesses can establish long-term relationships with the SPS, ensuring steady demand and potential for continuous growth through the extension of contract terms and possible inclusion of new prison sites. The emphasis on technical and price criteria in the award process underscores the importance of quality and cost-efficiency, favouring competitive offers from capable suppliers.
