## Summary

The Food Standards Scotland (FSS) has awarded a contract for the provision of Locum Remote Official Veterinarian/Meat Health Inspection Services. The contract covers the delivery of Official Controls in remote areas within Scotland where it is uneconomical for FSS to deploy its own official veterinarians and inspectors. The procurement method used was a limited award procedure without prior publication of a call for competition. The contract is valued at approximately GBP 500,000 over a 5-year period, with an initial 3-year contract period extendable up to 5 years. The contract was signed on 5th December 2023.

This tender provides business opportunities for suppliers in the services industry, particularly in veterinary and inspection services. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) such as Eaglen Veterinary Services Ltd, Joanne Drew, VSK Associates Ltd, and others were awarded contracts under this tender. The opportunities lie in providing Official Controls in Approved Meat Establishments in Scotland's remote regions. Businesses with expertise in Official Controls, game handling establishments, and remote area services are well-suited for competing in this tender to support FSS in ensuring food safety and consumer protection.
