## Notice

HESE is looking to purchase suitable, sustainable packaging for use in its retail outlets. Tenderers are asked to put forward their most sustainable solutions for the packaging. This is given without commitment and is only to be used as an indication of potential volumes for the purpose of tendering. The products are being split into the following Lots - Lot 1 - Long life/ recyclable carrier bags Lot 2 - Paper bags Lot 3 - Carriers/packaging for mugs/bottles and other fragile products, primarily for online orders and sundries such as tape, padded bags and tissue paper. There will be a requirement for various types and sizes of suitable durable carrier bags to be customised with HESE logos. Information regarding reuse, recycle and sustainability of the products should also appear clearly on the bags and packaging so that both HESE and consumers can understand particularly around recycling of the product. Wherever possible, HESE require products that are fully recyclable through well-established waste streams that are easily accessible to the end user

### Lot Information

Paper bags

There will be a requirement for various types and sizes of suitable durable carrier bags to be customised with HESE logos. Information regarding reuse, recycle and sustainability of the products should also appear clearly on the bags and packaging so that both HESE and consumers can understand particularly around recycling of the product. Wherever possible, HESE require products that are fully recyclable through well-established waste streams that are easily accessible to the end user. Paper bags and materials must be produced from wood fibres from sustainably managed forests. We expect to see the relevant Chain of Custody Certification where appropriate. This must be evidenced during the contract life. The ink for the logos should be non-toxic, eco-friendly with minimal chemical ingredients and this must be evidenced during the contract life. These should be printed onto the packaging as agreed with HESE.

Options: HESE may trial new products offered by the suppliers during the life of the contract and these may be added to the contract.

Renewal: There will be an option to extend for up to a further 24 months following the initial contract period.

Carriers/packaging for mugs/bottles and other fragile products, primarily for online orders and sundries such as tape, padded bags and tissue paper.

HESE will also require boxes to hold bottles, mugs etc. These products must be made from 100% recyclable and sustainable material. There may also be a requirement for tissue paper which may also be customised using the same design as the bags or a similar design. The tissue paper must be made from sustainable material and be fully recyclable. Tape and tape alternatives will also be required and these must be 100% recyclable and ideally free from plastics. The ink for the logos should be non-toxic, eco-friendly with minimal chemical ingredients and this must be evidenced during the contract life. These should be printed onto the packaging as agreed with HESE.

Options: HESE may trial new products offered by the suppliers during the life of the contract and these may be added to the contract.

Long life recyclable carrier bags

There will be a requirement for various types and sizes of suitable durable carrier bags to be customised with HESE logos. Information regarding reuse, recycle and sustainability of the products should also appear clearly on the bags and packaging so that both HESE and consumers can understand particularly around recycling of the product. Wherever possible, HESE require products that are fully recyclable through well-established waste streams that are easily accessible to the end user. All carrier bags must be made of durable material so it can be reused and then be 100% recycled at the end of the product's life. HESE require testing to ensure packaging solutions are fit for purpose. This may include drop testing, transit testing etc. The bags should be made from a minimum of 30% recycled content or products made from 100% renewable resources such as sugar cane or equivalent material. HESE are also keen to explore compostable materials where appropriate. Paper bags and materials must be produced from wood fibres from sustainably managed forests. We expect to see the relevant Chain of Custody Certification where appropriate. This must be evidenced during the contract life. The successful supplier will be expected to keep HESE notified of any changes or improvements in the material being used in the manufacture, recycling, reuse, and disposal of the products. HESE are keen to reduce the single use plastic bags as much as possible. We are also looking for suppliers to offer a take back solution for secondary, tertiary and non-branded primary packaging, where needed.
