### Lot Information

Lot 1

Non Competitive action following a review of a Nationwide Framework (20 suppliers) and engagement of a further 3 Suppliers - only one could fulfil the spec.

### Procurement Information

The Spectral Cell Analyser ID7000* is a flow cytometer, which will assess individual cells and measure their characteristics, such as the number or type of proteins displayed on the cell surface. The analyser records these measurements. To meet UoE research priorities, any analyser purchased had to meet a certain set of criteria. 1. Fully spectral 2. Capable of simultaneous detection of at least 45 fluorescent colours 3. Using more than 75 detectors 4. Equipped with 6 lasers (320, 355, 405, 488, 561 and 637 nm). The number of lasers is important for the provision of high-dimensionality (6 lasers enables more parameters to be measured than 5 lasers does). The lasers also have some specific uses: the 405nm laser is essential for small particle detection, and the 320nm laser is essential for effective autofluorescence removal. 5. Supplied with software that enables unsupervised use of the analyser by researchers, and that is accessible from computers not physically attached to the analyser. This technology is met by the provider this award is made to, is the most advanced technology, thus future proofed. This could not be provided by any of the 23 other suppliers engaged. This award will provide the research facilities within the University of Edinburgh to support the maintenance of a globally competitive environment in which early career researchers can develop research programmes using equipment that will allow them to answer ambitious and novel research questions. Additionally, training on this state-of-the-art technology will improve the future job prospects of postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers, and technical staff by developing skill sets in new ways of acquiring and analysing high- parameter data that are highly desirable in both academic and commercial settings. In the longer term, new knowledge generated in the areas of health, immunology, cell biology and microbiology are expected to lead to broader societal benefits, including through the identification of novel drug targets, informing future research into personalised approaches to maintaining health and treating disease, and the discovery of new ways of tackling environmental issues using microbial biotechnologies such as plastic waste recycling.
