## Summary

The University Of Edinburgh completed a tender process for the purchase of the UPS System. The procurement method used was a limited award procedure without prior publication. The University required additional power capacity for its data centre expansion project. The main procurement category was goods, and the contract with a value of 90,670 GBP was signed on 21st March 2024, lasting for 15 months. The contractor for this project is Kohler Uninterruptible Power.

This tender by the University Of Edinburgh presents an opportunity for suppliers of UPS systems and related services to engage in business growth. Businesses in the power supply equipment sector, especially those with experience in data centre installations and uninterruptible power supply systems, would be well-suited to compete for such contracts. The procurement process is part of a critical project for the University, highlighting the potential for long-term collaboration and future business opportunities in the education sector.

## Notice

There is a requirement to purchase the power capacity (UPS) for the University of Edinburgh.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

There is a requirement to purchase the power capacity (UPS) as part of a project to expand one of the University's data centres. This UPS capacity will also provide additional hosting capacity for any future expansion which may be required.. As this was an NCA there was no evaluation involved regarding quality however, the system does not allow for no quality % to be inserted.

### Procurement Information

Purchase of this UPS Kit is critical service to the University. The University are working on a project to extend the capacity of the main ISG data centre - The Mary Somerville datacentre at Kings Buildings. This expansion will create the capacity which will allow ISG High Performance Supercomputing (HPC) equipment to be moved from the Advanced Compute Facility at Easter Bush, which is necessary to create the space for the large government investment at the ACF. Due to historic similar requirements, there is an opportunity to expand the existing Kohler hardware. Engaging and working alongside two different suppliers will prove difficult in terms of interoperability or disproportionate technical difficulties in operation and maintenance.
