## Summary

Falkirk Council has completed the procurement process for the "Provision of Short Term Assessment Service" aimed at reducing the number of delayed discharges from hospitals in the Falkirk Council area. This tender pertains to the General Public Services industry category and relates specifically to care services within a Care Home environment. It involved an open procurement method, with the awarded contracts signed on 1st August 2024. The framework agreement will last until 31st March 2025, and the call-off contracts are not confined to this period. The delivery of services will be focused on rehabilitation, recovery, and recuperation for individuals who have completed their hospital treatment but require additional care before moving to a long-term care solution. The total value of the contract is £695,000.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in healthcare services, particularly those operating within the care home sector. Enterprises capable of providing short-term care services, especially those registered with the Care Inspectorate and maintaining high-quality standards, are well-suited to compete. This contract can enhance business growth by allowing suppliers to establish or expand their presence in the Falkirk Council area. It provides a chance to secure steady business throughout the framework period and potentially beyond, ensuring a reliable revenue stream and increased market visibility.

## Notice

Delayed discharges are rising to unacceptable levels due to care, including care at home, being unavailable. Remaining unnecessarily in hospital after treatment is complete can lead to rapid deterioration in physical and mental well-being, particularly in people with dementia. In addition, the occupancy of acute hospital beds by those who no longer need clinical care means these beds will not be available to those who do need them. The aim of the service is to support significant reductions in the number of people delayed in discharge from hospital until more appropriate care and support is available. Short term assessment care will have a clear focus on rehabilitation, recovery and recuperation in a Care Home environment within the Falkirk Council area.
