## Summary

The University of Edinburgh has completed the procurement process for the purchase of an EVIDENT Microscope Upgrade through an open procedure. The awarded contract, valued at £66,440.33 GBP, was signed on 7th June 2024. The procurement opportunity falls under the goods category and was initiated by the University of Edinburgh based in Edinburgh, UK. The award was given to Evident Europe GmbH, a large-scale supplier located in Stansted. The tender, named "EVIDENT Microscope Upgrade," aimed to enhance the IMPACT imaging facility's capabilities, providing high-end imaging equipment for research groups across the university.

This tender offers a growth opportunity for businesses in the goods industry, especially those involved in supplying high-end imaging equipment and related technical support. Business entities with experience in upgrading scientific equipment, such as microscopy systems, would be well-suited to compete in similar tenders. The successful execution and delivery of the EVIDENT Microscope Upgrade contract could establish valuable partnerships and future collaboration opportunities for businesses looking to expand their presence in the research equipment sector.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

The IMPACT (Image Analysis, Multi-Photon and Confocal Technologies) imaging facility provides access to high-end imaging equipment and technical support for research groups in the Centre for Discovery, Brain Science (CDBS) but is also accessible to all research groups across the University. TIRF (Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence) microscopy is a specialist technique that allows high-contrast, high-resolution images of a broad range of samples. In 2022 the end user purchased a system upgrade for the Evident Scientific TIRF (Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence) microscope which included; Compatibility with existing lasers, objective lenses, filters, camera, TIRF upgrade module, system control and acquisition software and PC. Until now the facility could continue using the original laser source but this has now come to end-of-life. This proposed upgrade will replace the 2-colour laser source with a 4-colour laser source increasing the flexibility and productivity of the microscope. This will further increase the productivity of this system by incorporating high-speed calcium imaging capabilities that allow researchers to examine neuronal signalling.
