## Summary

North Lanarkshire Council has awarded a contract for the treatment and disposal of waste upholstered domestic seating (WUDs) containing Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). This contract, which falls under the general public services industry category, involves managing waste from housing, Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs), fly-tipping incidents, and special uplifts within the North Lanarkshire region (UKM84). The procurement process, identified as NLC-CPT-24-013, was completed using an open procedure, with the final contract signed on 8 August 2024. The awarded vendor is DOW GROUP LTD, a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) based in Cumbernauld, Glasgow.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in waste management services, particularly those with capabilities in handling hazardous materials like POPs. SMEs equipped with the necessary infrastructure to sort, treat, and dispose of such waste can find growth potential by participating in similar future contracts. The focus on environmental management and waste treatment suggests that companies in the recycling, waste logistics, and environmental services sectors would be well-suited to compete. Additionally, firms that offer innovative solutions for the disposal and treatment of hazardous waste can leverage such contracts to expand their market presence and reinforce their expertise in public sector projects.
