## Summary

The University of Strathclyde, based in Glasgow, UK, has successfully completed the procurement process for the "Supply, Delivery and Installation of Laser Depanelling & Singulation" equipment. This tender, falling under the Education category, is part of a significant advancement within the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) focussed on power electronic semiconductors. The awarded contract was signed on December 19, 2024, with the supply expected to enhance manufacturing capabilities within an ISO-7 clean room environment at NMIS, supporting both academic and industrial partners across the UK. The entire project is aligned with a publicly funded effort to create a scaled-up packaging facility for power electronics, with a procurement value of £740,000. The tender followed an open procedure and was detailed in an award notice published on January 15, 2025.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in advanced manufacturing technologies, particularly those involved in semiconductor equipment and components. Companies with experience in providing high-precision laser equipment would find this contract beneficial, allowing them to contribute to and benefit from state-of-the-art developments in power electronics. The involvement of large-scale suppliers like M-Solv Ltd, indicates that both large enterprises and SMEs capable of meeting the stringent quality and delivery requirements can vie for such sophisticated projects. With the delivery and installation of cutting-edge equipment, participating businesses can expect to enhance their portfolios, attract further academic and industrial collaborations, and gain a foothold in growing sectors supported by NMIS's expanding facilities.

## Notice

The University of Strathclyde has a requirement for laser equipment that can depanel printed circuit boards, singulate over moulded lead frames, laser mark components and weld metal lids to metal packages.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

The National Manufacturing Institute Scotland is in the process of expanding its manufacturing capability into the semiconductor advanced packaging area with specific focus on power electronic semiconductors. To support this expansion, NMIS intends to procure equipment that can support a wide variety of power electronic semiconductor designs and packaging requirements. This is in support of a publicly funded project that will see the creation of an advanced, scaled up packaging facility for power electronics within the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland. The overall scale up manufacturing facility is to be housed at an NMIS site; this semiconductor advanced packaging area will be housed in an ISO-7 (previously class 10,000) clean room environment. The equipment will comprise the latest technology in their respective fields. It will be utilized in a range of projects within the Power Electronics industry and will be made available to both academic and industrial partners across the whole of the United Kingdom, including other catapult centres. The University of Strathclyde has a requirement for laser equipment that can depanel printed circuit boards, singulate over moulded lead frames, laser mark components and weld metal lids to metal packages
