## Summary

The Scottish Government has awarded a contract under Project Gigabit for Lot 1, covering the Borders and East Lothian areas. The aim of this procurement process is to deploy infrastructure facilitating access to gigabit-capable internet connections for premises not covered by commercial plans. The procurement was conducted using a restricted procedure and was awarded to GoFibre Holdings Limited, a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) based in Edinburgh. The contract, signed on 1st October 2024, is valued at £26,201,841 and falls under the industry category of services related to economic affairs, education, and general public services. The project's procurement stage is complete, with the official award announced on 21st February 2025.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in the infrastructure development sector, particularly those specialising in the installation and maintenance of fibre-optic networks. SMEs like GoFibre Holdings Limited are well-suited to compete for similar contracts, given their agility and specialised expertise in regional projects. The gigabit infrastructure rollout will not only boost connectivity but also stimulate economic growth, providing various subcontracting and supply opportunities for businesses in the tech and construction industries. Companies offering complementary services, such as network security and technical support, may also find potential growth avenues in supporting the overarching goals of Project Gigabit.

## Notice

This procurement is for the award of a Regional Supplier Contract in the Borders and East Lothian area. This is part of the Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy scheme.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

In March 2021, the UK Government announced an ambition to deliver nationwide gigabit-capable broadband infrastructure, recognising that there is a need for government intervention in the parts of the country that are not commercially viable. They have committed a total of 5 billion GBP to ensure that all areas of the UK can benefit. This will be spent through a package of coordinated and mutually supportive interventions, collectively known as Project Gigabit, with an initial intervention of 1.2 billion GBP targeting at least 85% gigabit coverage of the UK by 2025 and nationwide gigabit-capable broadband infrastructure by 2030. As part of Project Gigabit, the Scottish Government is working with Building Digital UK (BDUK) to deliver contracts to suppliers delivering gigabit-capable wholesale infrastructure in Scotland. This procurement approach will be a successor to the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband programme and work in parallel with the Scottish Government's current Reaching 100% (R100) programme. This contract award is for the Borders and East Lothian Area and was tendered through BDUK's Project Gigabit procurement dynamic purchasing system (DPS).
