## Summary

The University of Edinburgh has recently completed a procurement process for the "Building Energy Management System Upgrade" project, categorised under the education industry. This initiative, situated at the University of Edinburgh, involves the procurement of goods, specifically upgrading the existing building energy management system software. The procurement method was limited, entailing an award procedure without prior publication of a call for competition, with the primary contract being awarded to Schneider Electric. The need for this upgrade arises from the obsolescence of the current Sigma system, requiring transition to Schneider's EcoStruxure system. The contract was signed on 14th October 2024, with a contract value of £10,000,000.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, particularly those specialising in energy management systems, building automation, and software updates. Given Schneider Electric’s role as the original equipment manufacturer and sole supplier capable of both decommissioning the existing system and upgrading to EcoStruxure, companies with similar technical expertise or those looking to enter niche markets in education and public sector upgrades could find substantial growth opportunities. The procurement's specialised nature underscores the importance of technical qualifications, making it ideal for large-scale enterprises with established credentials in complex system integrations.

All existing humidity and temperature sensors at UoE have been provided by Schneider, including controls infrastructure. The University requires to use Schneider's system to avoid potential quality and accuracy issues for a business-critical area.
