This was standardised so each vessel had the same type/manufacturer and similar amount of equipment. The purpose of this standardisation was for crew members to maintain familiarity and competence of the safe use of said equipment, regardless of which vessel they were allocated to.The equipment has a 10 year lifespan so there is still another 5 years remaining which means that notwithstanding accidental damage, no further investment is required until 2029.
