## Summary

The Scottish Natural Heritage, located at Great Glen House, Inverness, has initiated a planned procurement process for the rapid response to Vespa velutina (Yellow legged hornet) in Scotland. Aimed under the industry category of environmental protection, this project focuses on the treatment and removal of hornet nests, which are often found at significant heights and require safe handling. This procurement stage is currently in the planning phase, with key activities scheduled between April and November. The future notice date for this project is marked as 8th November 2024.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in pest control, particularly those experienced in handling hazardous insects and working at heights. Companies capable of offering rapid response services within a five-day notification period and ensuring adherence to Health and Safety Executive guidelines for working with chemicals and at heights would find this contract particularly suitable. Additionally, businesses with experience in managing public safety and biohazard material are well-placed to compete for this procurement opportunity. This initiative will also consider firms that can handle other invasive non-native species, providing an extended scope for pest control services beyond the primary focus.
