## Summary

The Scottish Government has finalised the award for the contract titled "Charter for Mackerel Egg Survey in Northwest Ireland and West of Scotland" within the industry category of General public services. The charter involves marine services, specifically an icthyoplankton survey for mackerel eggs, and will commence on 10th April 2025 with a duration of 16 days. Departing from Ullapool and offloading at Peterhead, the survey covers Northwest and Western Scotland and Northwest Ireland. The project has transitioned from the tender stage in November 2024 to the award stage with a contract value of £485,760. On 3rd February 2025, Interfish Limited was awarded the contract, indicating readiness for the charter activities.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses in the marine and fisheries sectors, particularly those operating pelagic vessels of overall length greater than 60 metres. Companies with expertise in marine surveys, environmental monitoring, or fisheries would be well-suited to compete for similar future contracts. Additionally, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the marine industry can leverage such contracts to showcase their capabilities and achieve business growth. With a transparent open procurement process and defined technical requirements, proficient bidders can secure a strong foothold in similar governmental surveys and projects.

### Lot Information

Marine Directorate invites a tender from pelagic vessels of overall length greater than 60m to undertake an icthyoplankton survey for mackerel eggs within the region of NW Ireland, W and NW Scotland. The charter will be of 16 days duration and start on the 10th April 2025, departing from Ullapool. Offloading will provisionally be undertaken from Peterhead upon completion of the survey. Transit time to the survey start point/end point is approximately an 8 hour and a 12 hour steam from each of the respective ports. Scientific quota is being offered in exchange for a number of days survey time (maximum 16 days depending on the daily rate of charter). Mackerel quota is to be allocated on the value of the catch at the time of landing. The catch is to be taken as western mackerel quota. This quota must be taken at the first opportunity of the mackerel fishery opening in September 2025. If the vessel lands more than the monetary value agreed, the excess must be covered by the vessels own quota allocation. Bidding vessels must therefore have sufficient quota in the relevant area. If the vessel lands less than the value agreed no additional compensation will be offered.
