## Summary

The University of Edinburgh has completed a procurement process for the purchase of 24 EVOS M3000 Cell Analysis Systems, aimed at enhancing undergraduate teaching and supporting research. This open procedure procurement, falling under the industry category of Education and classified under CPV code 38512200, took place in the UKM75 region (Edinburgh). The contract was awarded on 3 January 2025 to Thermo Fisher Scientific, with a total contract value of GBP 334,000. The EVOS systems will be primarily located in the BMTO East/West labs for teaching purposes and will be available for research use when not in use for educational needs.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses involved in the supply of advanced educational and scientific equipment. The procurement, focused on the acquisition of high-quality imaging systems, presents a lucrative market for large-scale suppliers with the capability to support sophisticated educational infrastructure and research requirements. Companies involved in cutting-edge biomedical and educational technology would particularly benefit from competing in similar tenders, given the scope for long-term partnerships with leading educational institutions like the University of Edinburgh. The focus on modern teaching methodologies and potential research applications underscores the growing demand for innovative technological solutions in the education sector.

## Notice

24 EVOS systems are being purchased to facilitate development of more up to date teaching practicals using new methodologies and techniques that have been developed in recent years which are not at present used for undergraduate teaching. These include increased high quality imaging which will work for both teaching and research and the linkability of the system will let all groups in a class focus on this imaging. Allied to this some of the Cell Analysis Systems will be used by our school research groups in their grant funded studies, hopefully assisting in bringing in more funding to the School of Biomedical Sciences. The items will be located in the BMTO East/West labs for undergraduate teaching and will be loaned to HRB researchers as and when teaching needs permit. It is envisioned that we will also be able to offer more Honours projects to 4th years students with increased relevance to the present day fields of biomedical research.
