## Summary

The Scottish Government, operating through the Marine Directorate, has concluded the tender process for a two-year support contract on the existing Marine Scotland High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster. The project emphasized services in the maintenance and repair of information technology equipment, with a primary focus on marine science applications and machine learning methods for salmon growth analysis, which underscores its importance in supporting hydrodynamic model simulations and disease spread modelling. The HPC cluster's location is in Aberdeen at the Marine Laboratory, with key dates including the award date on 11th March 2025 and the contract signing on 3rd October 2025.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specializing in information technology services, particularly those capable of providing high-performance computing support. The project requirements include maintaining complex IT systems and leveraging machine learning techniques, making it an ideal opportunity for firms with expertise in advanced computing and marine science applications. By partnering with the Scottish Government, successful suppliers like OCF Limited, based in Sheffield, can expand their portfolio and reinforce their reputation in the public sector, enhancing their prospects for future contracts.

## Notice

The Scottish Ministers acting through Marine Directorate invites tenders for a two year support contract on our existing Marine Scotland High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster made up of Lenovo ThinkSystem servers, supplied in 2020.Marine Directorate mainly use the HPC cluster for hydrodynamic model and particle tracking simulations, as well as model pre- and post-processing and visualisation, and other marine science applications. The wider Scottish Government also use the HPC cluster for modelling the spread of diseases. Marine Directorate has developed cutting edge machine learning (ML) methods for the automatic extraction of detailed growth information from salmon scale images. Machine learning is also being used, or investigated, in a number of other areas in Marine Directorate.
