In order to protect the Council from malicious actors who may seek to cause operational disruption and reputational damage, and in order to ensure compliance with our Acceptable Use Policy and legislative requirements around items such as PSN (Public Services Network) and PCI DSS (the PCS Security Standard Council).

the web filter provides the following functions: Control: Allow staff to access the websites and services required to perform their business function, preventing access to inappropriate or dangerous content. Access may be different depending on the requirements of the user. Allows NLC to meet requirements for PSN , PCI DSS, Cyber Essentials etc. Monitor: Log all access requests made by users and use this data to investigate any incidents, identify emerging threats or provide feedback on how staff are using the Internet, leading to continual improvement of our access provision. Protect: Stop users from inadvertently or deliberately endangering Council and personal data, prevent access to certain features of cloud-based applications, malicious or inappropriate websites. Mitigate risks from Internet based threats, such as malware or ransomware that could have significant operational disruption and reputational damage to the Council. A modern, cloud-based web filtering solution is essential to ensure continued provision of an appropriate level of Internet access allowing staff to deliver to our service users while working from a variety of locations..
