## Summary

The University of Edinburgh has completed a procurement process titled "Vivid E98 (Ultra Edition)" within the Education industry category, primarily located in the UKM75 region. The contract, awarded on the 1st of April 2025, involved the acquisition of a new cardiac ultrasound machine for The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and The Roslin Institute. The procurement was conducted using a limited method due to technical reasons, specifically the absence of competition. GE Healthcare was selected as the supplier for their Vivid E95 model, which seamlessly integrates with the pre-existing equipment in the facility.

This tender presents substantial growth opportunities for businesses specialising in medical imaging technology, particularly those capable of providing high-quality and robust imaging solutions. Additionally, companies offering maintenance and technical support services for advanced medical equipment will find this opportunity suitable. Large-scale enterprises with experience in animal cardiology imaging systems will be well-positioned to cater to such specialised procurement needs, enhancing their market presence and client portfolio within the veterinary and educational sectors.

## Notice

The Small Animal Cardiology Services at The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and The Roslin Institute has received funding to replace its current cardiac ultrasound machine. As a specialist veterinary referral cardiology centre, the facility receives a high volume of cases, including cats, dogs, and sometimes exotic species. Given the diverse range of body conformations and sizes, the replacement machine must be robust and can provide exceptionally high-quality imaging. These cases range from straightforward to highly complex cardiac conditions, the functionality of a replacement machine must reflect this, with high sample rates, colour mapping, tissue Doppler imaging, strain and 3D capability.

### Procurement Information

The equipment selected is GE HealthCare's Vivid E95 procured via a Non-Competitive Action due to competition being absent for technical reasons. The primary reason for selecting the Vivid E95 is its compatibility with the facility's existing library of probes and clinical imaging software. This ensures; - Existing library of probes - Seamless integration with the archive of clinical imaging. - Continuity of workflow as newly acquired studies are analysed offline, allowing detailed image analysis while new scans are conducted simultaneously. - Continuity of the current offline analysis software, as the existing software remains fully compatible. As well as the primary justification below are various points that are advantageous; - Experienced with the functionality, purchasing a newer model will ensure the transition is seamless with no need for re-training. - Current equipment is extremely reliable and received excellent technical support and replacement of parts required when required with minimal disruption to the facility. - The models are future-proofed for Microsoft upgrades and are compatible with university firewalls, our current DICOM and the proposed new VNA. The machine will be included in the pre-existing service contract for multiple GE machines on campus
