Children with hearing impairments use hearing aids and/or cochlear implants to help them hear in everyday life. The optimum listening distance through these instruments is approx. 6ft, after that distance the sound quality reduces dramatically. Moreover, they do not work well in background noise and classrooms are noisy places. Currently, 74 children in schools use personal FM systems and each pupil requires one transmitter and two receivers. This is in an increase from 18 children, in 2020.

Sonova UK Limited t/a Phonak UK Ltd are the only provider in the market to use digital technology. Analogue technology does not provide the same quality of sound reproduction. Purchasing equipment direct from the manufacturer means that a discount can be negotiated.
