The Histocompatibility and Immunology (H&I) department in SNBTS requires a contract for Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) specific Antibody testing. SNBTS own existing equipment previously acquired via capital purchase. Testing kits and consumables are required to perform the necessary tests. HLA antibody testing is performed on solid organ transplant patients during transplant work up, while listed for a deceased donor organ and in the post-transplant setting. HLA antibody testing informs pre-transplant risk assessment and clinical decision making including the immune risk associated with proceeding with a transplant, use of immunosuppression, biopsy indication/interpretation, and the likelihood of a patient being offered a compatible offer. HLA antibody testing is also used in the transfusion setting to manage patients with immune platelet refractoriness and in the investigation of suspected cases of transfusion associated acute lung injury.
