## Summary

The procurement process for "Ground Investigations for Lot 1 - CMAL SVRP Enabling Works Lot 2 Gasay Ferry Terminal Redevelopment" has progressed to the award stage, with contracts signed on 29th July 2025 by the buying organisation, Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (Utility), based in Port Glasgow. This procurement focuses on the transport sector and involves works to be carried out at various locations, including Southern Ports like Colintraive & Portavadie, and Northern Ports such as Fishnish, Kilchoan & Tobermory, as well as Gasay Island in the Outer Hebrides. The process was conducted through an open procedure, ensuring transparency and competition. Causeway Geotech Ltd, an SME from Ballymoney, has been awarded the contract for both lots, with a total contract value of over £1 million GBP.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in marine and land-based ground investigations, particularly those with expertise in geotechnical and geo-environmental constraints. The development includes upgrading infrastructure to support electrically powered ferries, and businesses that provide marine survey services or have experience in similar redevelopment projects could find ample opportunity for growth. The requirement to provide detailed designs and the need for new aligning structures and sub-stations suggest a particular suitability for firms with a strong engineering and infrastructure background. Engaging in such projects can help businesses enhance their portfolios and increase their competitiveness in the transport infrastructure sector.

## Notice

CMAL wish to appoint a sole supplier in respect of marine survey and marine and land-based ground investigations for the Small Vessel Replacement Programme (SVRP) Enabling Works and Gasay Ferry Terminal Redevelopment.

### Lot Information

CMAL SVRP Enabling Works

CMAL propose to upgrade 8 ports in the West of Scotland to accommodate electrically powered pedestrian/vehicle ferries. Short roll-on roll-off (ro-ro) crossings between mainland and Islands operate between these ports, using relatively small vessels, which require associated infrastructure. Ground investigations are required at 5 of the ports in order to characterise the ground conditions for dredging design at two locations, and for foundation design for new aligning structures at three other locations. New sub-stations and cabling works will be required at all sites. The purpose of the main works is to undertake a marine survey and marine and land ground investigations to develop a replacement berth and ferry terminal. The purpose of this lot is to gather information that will allow for development of an outline design as well as a detailed design of the main works proposed. This information will be gathered through marine and land Ground Investigations (GI) within the study area, which will be targeted to address the geotechnical and geo-environmental constraints, along with their potential impact on the works proposed.

Ground Investigations for Lot 2 - Gasay Ferry Terminal Redevelopment

The purpose of the main works is to undertake a marine survey and marine and land ground investigations to develop a replacement berth and ferry terminal. The purpose of this lot is to gather information that will allow for development of an outline design as well as a detailed design of the main works proposed.
