## Summary

The recent procurement process carried out by The Common Services Agency, better known as NHS National Services Scotland (NSS), focused on the provision of anti-embolism stockings, compression devices, accessories, and lymphoedema products. This contract, identified as NP536/18, falls under the health industry category and was designed to meet the increased demands placed upon the Scottish Health and Social Care sector, particularly in light of the administration recovery following the Covid-19 pandemic. The procurement utilized a limited method—a procedure without prior publication—due to unforeseen circumstances. The contract, valued at £9,382,220, was awarded on 11th November 2019 and amended to extend its duration from 11th November 2024 to 10th November 2025 to ensure continuity in supply and avoid potential disruptions. The main delivery location spans regions across the UK.

This procurement process presents substantial opportunities for businesses engaged in the manufacture and supply of compression socks, stockings, and related therapeutic garments. Large-scale suppliers such as Arjo UK Ltd, Urgo Limited, and others were involved in winning this tender, indicating a preference for established companies with the capacity to meet high demand. Businesses specialising in healthcare products and textiles, particularly those capable of quickly adapting to the changing needs of healthcare systems amid ongoing public health challenges, are well-suited to compete for such tenders. Enterprises aiming to strengthen their presence in the public healthcare sector can leverage contracts like these to foster significant business growth and establish long-term relationships with prominent public agencies like NHS National Services Scotland.

## Notice

Provision of Anti Embolism Stockings (Non Mechanical) for NHSS. Compression stockings are a specialised hosiery designed to help prevent the occurrence of, and guard against further progression of, venous disorders such as edema, phlebitis and thrombosis. Compression stockings are elastic garments worn around the leg, compressing the limb. This reduces the diameter of distended veins and increases venous blood flow velocity and valve effectiveness. Compression therapy helps decrease venous pressure, prevents venous stasis and impairments of venous walls, and relieves heavy and aching legs.
