## Summary

The University of Edinburgh has completed the procurement process for a contract titled "Closed Systems Water Quality Specialist," focusing on the provision of comprehensive water quality sampling, analysis, reporting, and chemical treatment for its heating and cooling closed-circuit water systems across various campuses. This service contract belongs to the education sector, categorized under the services industry, and is located in Edinburgh, Scotland. The procurement was conducted through an open procedure, resulting in the award to Protech Heating Limited for a contract period from 23rd March 2026 to 22nd March 2028, with options to extend up to 22nd March 2030. The tendering process began with planning in July 2025, and the final contract was signed on 11th March 2026, enabling the University to meet regulatory obligations effectively.

This contract presents significant opportunities for businesses specializing in water quality management, particularly those with expertise in closed water systems for educational institutions. The University sought a Water Quality Specialist affiliated with the Closed Systems Control Association and required that all water analysis be performed by UKAS-accredited laboratories. Such requirements highlight the opportunity for highly qualified businesses in the fields of water services and laboratory testing to engage in future tenders. Additionally, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with experience in chemical treatment and system efficiency enhancement could gain substantial business growth by participating in similar procurement processes, thereby expanding their portfolios within the public sector.
