## Summary

The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) has completed a procurement process for a managed service entitled "Managed Service for Hepatitis E" in the health services industry. The process, which falls under the "services" procurement category, involves a fully integrated microbiology managed service system to handle nucleic acid testing for HEV, HAV, and Parvo B19. The procurement stage is at completion, with the contract signed on 28th August 2025. The service will be implemented primarily in the UKM region, with Roche Diagnostics appointed as the supplier following a direct award without prior publication, necessitated by the need to extend the current contract for six months starting 1st November 2025, ensuring testing continuity at The Jack Copland Centre, Edinburgh.

This opportunity presents significant business growth possibilities for companies specialising in medical diagnostics and laboratory services, particularly those with capabilities in managing comprehensive service agreements that include equipment provision, maintenance, consumables, and technical support. Such businesses, especially large-scale ones similar to Roche Diagnostics, would find this tender exemplary, offering a stable partnership with a body governed by public law, enabling entry into public health service markets. This contract not only involves substantial financial backing, amounting to £150,000, but also enhances operational prowess through participating in service continuity for vital healthcare processes within Scotland.

A project to replace the current contract has been concluded however due to the time that it takes to conduct a procurement exercise and the subsequent implementation period, delays have been encountered and have meant that a short extension is required to the current contract to ensure continuity of testing. This extension will be for a 6 month period from 01 November 2025.
