## Summary

The University of Strathclyde has successfully completed the contracting process for the "Supply, Delivery, Installation and Commissioning of Dry Cryostat" for its Physics Department, marking the transition to the award stage on 4 March 2026. The procurement process was initiated on 27 November 2025 and followed an open procedure method focusing on the education sector within the UKM82 region. ICEoxford Limited was awarded the contract valued at £104,900 GBP, with the expectation of enhancing quantum electronics testing capabilities. The location for delivery is the University’s facility in Glasgow, with the procurement categorised under "goods" and featuring a comprehensive list of technical specifications for the cryogen-free refrigerator system.

This contract provides significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in high-precision scientific equipment within the electronics industry. Companies with established experience in handling cryogenic technology can benefit by meeting the specific requirements posed by the University’s extensive specification for testing quantum devices. SMEs and suppliers with capabilities in manufacturing, installing, and commissioning advanced refrigeration systems stand to gain from engaging in such tenders. By developing sophisticated cooling solutions that align with the University’s standards, businesses can expand their expertise and offerings to similar opportunities, especially within the educational and research sectors.

## Notice

This notice is related to the procurement for the Supply, Delivery, Installation & Commissioning of Dry Cryostat to be used at the University of Strathclyde's Physics Department.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

This procurement is for the The Supply, Delivery, Installation and Commissioning of Dry Cryostat. The University of Strathclyde's Physics Department is looking to procure the supply, delivery and commissioning of a cryogen-free refrigerator equipped with dc and rf electrical wiring to test and characterise quantum electronic devices under the UKRI funded Quantum ELecTronics in sIlicon Carbide +3 (QELTIC+3) project. The specification for the procurement includes a non-exhaustive list of key features as below: - The system must be capable of a base temperature of 4 K or lower in continuous mode of operation with sample in vacuum and all electrical wiring in place. Apart from a vacuum pump for the OVC, all other components required for the system to reach base temperature must be provided - The system must have a cooling power of at least 0.5 W at 4K. - The system must be capable of fully automated cool down from room to base temperature. - The system must have DC wiring of at least 4 sets of 12 twisted pairs wires (or equivalent arrangement) from room T to the coldest plate (note 12 twisted pairs equals 24 individual wires). This wiring has to be dedicated to experiments and does not include any other wiring used for thermometry/heating. - The system must have RF wiring of at least 6 lines on coaxial cables with frequency band from DC up to at least 18 GHz from the room temperature stage to the coldest plate with cryogenic attenuators, breakout flanges and connectors at each intermediate stage. SMA termination/connector type is required. - The sample space must have a diameter of at least 100 mm - The cooling time from room to base temperature must not exceed 5h - The temperature instability at base must not exceed 100 mK - The rms vibration at the sample stage must not exceed 5 micrometer/ root Hz.

Options: The Contracting Authority reserves the right to request for additional deliveries by the successful tenderer, either intended as partial replacement of supplies or installations or as extensions of existing supplies and installations. The Contracting Authority may at it's sole discretion exercise it's option.
