## Summary

The procurement process for the project titled "SR-PACT-PROJ-599 - Centrifugal Air Filter Modification - (PIP135-12)" was conducted by ScotRail Trains Limited, headquartered in Glasgow. This procurement falls under the "goods" category, specifically targeting parts of locomotives or rolling stock, in line with CPV codes 34600000 and 34631000. The award stage was completed on 7th May 2026, with the contract now active. This modification project involves designing and fabricating changes to the Class 158 engine air induction canisters to ensure cleaner airflow through centrifugal processing. The project location is primarily in Scotland, with ScotRail staff responsible for partial project implementation.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in railway component manufacturing and engineering modifications. Companies that can design, fabricate, and implement modifications to existing railway components, while ensuring regulatory compliance, will find this sector lucrative. The awarded company, Advanced Group Services Glacier Energy, indicates a competitive environment but also highlights the potential for growth in supplying specialised railway parts. Businesses looking to expand into manufacturing durable and performance-enhancing railway equipment are well-suited to compete in similar future public procurement processes.

## Notice

Design and fabricate a modification to the existing Class 158 engine air induction canisters such that the incoming airflow is centrifuged to remove impurities. ScotRail envisage this requiring the removal of the canister from the vehicle and a change to the air entry point, via some permanent modification and then refitting by SRT staff. In addition we envisage new filters and require a new single piece induction hose connecting the canister outlet to the turbo inlet. Exchanging canisters on vehicle will be performed by SRT staff and is outside the scope of this procurement.
