## Summary

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) Northern Ireland has initiated a procurement process under an open procedure for predator control services in the Antrim Hills, specifically in Glenwherry and Glencloy, County Antrim. This tender, titled "PREDATOR CONTROL SERVICES TO RSPB NI – GLENWHERRY AND GLENCLOY, CO. ANTRIM," falls under the services category focusing on environmental protection. The primary objective is to manage the fox population to protect ground-nesting birds such as the Curlew. The procurement process is currently at the tender stage, with submissions invited electronically by the 23rd of February, 2026, at noon. The awarded contract will commence on the 1st of April, 2026, and will last until the 31st of March, 2028, with a possibility of extension depending on funding. The contract period for the initial delivery of services spans from November 2025 to March 2026.

This tender represents a substantial opportunity for businesses specialising in environmental services, particularly those with expertise in predator control and wildlife management in ecological and agricultural settings. The project's scope, encompassing 7,500 hectares of private land, necessitates collaboration with local landowners and community stakeholders. Companies equipped with the knowledge and resources to implement lethal control of foxes and with a track record of environmental conservation will find this contract beneficial. It not only offers a chance to showcase expertise in sustainable practices but also aligns with efforts to conserve and bolster the population of vulnerable species like the Curlew. The procurement method ensures a fair and open playing field for qualified contenders to compete and potentially broaden their presence in the environmental management sector.

## Notice

Control of foxes across 7,500 Ha of the Antrim Hills (Glenwherry and Glencloy) on private land for the benefit of Curlew and other ground nesting birds.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

Working with landowners, farmers and local communities, this contract will deliver concrete action to halt the decline of Curlew in one of their last remaining hotspots in Northern Ireland. It will build on progress and lessons learnt through the RSPB's Curlew LIFE project which recorded exceptional productivity across the Glenwherry site and a 40% increase in breeding pairs in 2024. As predation is a main driver of low Curlew breeding success, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) wants to commission the services of an appropriately qualified and experienced contractor to undertake the lethal control of foxes in the Glenwherry and Glencloy areas of the Antrim Hills. This activity is to take place over a period of approximately 19 weeks between 17th November 2025 and 31st March 2026, and will complement work to improve habitat quality within the area. Please note this tender does not cover any form of corvid control. Site maps will only be provided to the successful supplier. The proposed site is approximately 7,500 hectares in size and is under private ownership.

Renewal: : RSPBNI reserves the right to extend this contract for a further financial year (1st April 2028 to 31st March 2029) and part of the next financial year (1st April 2029 to 31st July 2029), subject to funding
