## Summary

The University of Strathclyde has concluded the award stage for the procurement of grinding and polishing equipment to replace an obsolete unit in the Metallography and Materials Characterisation Laboratory at the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland's Advanced Forming Research Centre. This contract, valued at £25,937.75, was awarded to MetPrep Ltd, which will supply, deliver, install, and commission the equipment, while providing essential training. The procurement, classified under the goods category, involves laboratory, optical, and precision equipment, and aims to enhance the lab's capabilities in supporting research and industrial projects through advanced metallographic sample preparation. This award reflects the University's commitment to maintaining high-quality research and operational standards, ensuring consistent sample quality and cost-effective maintenance.

The procurement process presents substantial opportunities for businesses engaged in the manufacturing and supply of laboratory equipment, particularly those specialising in automation and precision tools used in material analysis. Companies that can offer modern, reliable equipment compatible with existing consumables and processes, along with comprehensive after-sales services such as installation and training, are well-positioned to compete in such tenders. As the demand for sophisticated laboratory tools grows, driven by increased industrial and research activities, suppliers offering innovative solutions that improve efficiency and performance will find numerous opportunities for expansion and collaboration with renowned institutions like the University of Strathclyde.

## Notice

"The University of Strathclyde has a requirement for supply, delivery, installation, commissioning, and training of a new grinder-polisher replacing an existing unit that has reached end-of-life. This is being undertaken by the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) - Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC), for Metallography and Materials Characterisation Laboratory (Lab 6 AF114). The lab provides metallographic sample preparation to support research, industrial projects and student projects.Metallographic preparation is a crucial stage in materials characterisation and allows for microscopy, hardness testing and many more analysis. The current Eco-Automet grinder-polisher has deteriorated over years of heavy use, resulting in inconsistent sample quality and higher service costs.AFRC requires a modern, reliable automatic grinder-polisher with consistent performance, advanced automation, programmable processes, and compatibility with existing consumables and sample sizes, removal of old equipment. This will ensure continuous operation and support increasing demand from industrial projects and research programmes."
