## Summary

Orkney Islands Council has recently completed the procurement process for a strategic support partnership intended for an options appraisal concerning the facilities management of the Schools Investment Programme. The contract was awarded within the UKM65 region on Orkney Main Island, and it falls under the services industry category, focusing on general public services. The procurement stage involved was the award phase, with the strategic partner identified on 19th August 2024. The award was made through a limited procurement method, specifically under a Framework Agreement facilitated by Hub North, emphasising suitability and availability as key factors in the selection process.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for business growth, particularly for SMEs that provide consultancy services, focusing on strategic assessments and facilities management within educational settings. The procurement undertaking was driven by the need to conduct surveys and appraisals ahead of the anticipated handback process of the Schools Investment Programme. Independent Intelligence Ltd., an SME, was successfully appointed to fulfil these requirements, demonstrating the potential for suitably skilled consultancy firms to secure similar contracts, particularly those with experience in public services and familiarity with framework agreements. Businesses that can respond swiftly to urgent needs and possess relevant expertise in facilities and maintenance strategies will find such tenders promising avenues to expand their operations.
