## Summary

North Lanarkshire Council is seeking tenders for the secure collection, destruction, and disposal of confidential waste, specifically targeting paper shredding services. This tender is part of the Council's ongoing commitment to comply with regulatory requirements such as the UK GDPR and the Public Records (Scotland) Act 2011. The procurement process is currently in the tender stage, with an emphasis on services needed across the UK. Interested parties must submit their electronic bids by 18th May 2026. The procurement follows an open procedure, ensuring transparent competition for potential bidders.

Opportunities from this tender can be particularly fruitful for businesses specialising in waste management services with expertise in secure disposal practices. Companies offering solutions that align with ISO certifications and robust security protocols for handling personal and commercially sensitive information will find themselves well-suited to compete. This contract, valued at £200,000 GBP, features ongoing and ad hoc service delivery options, with additional potential for contractual extensions. As the Council prioritises quality alongside price in its award criteria, businesses capable of delivering high standards in service execution combined with competitive pricing will have an advantage.

## Notice

The council has a responsibility to ensure that all confidential waste is managed and disposed of appropriately, in line with its Retention Schedules and Records Management Plan, to maintain compliance with data protection and regulatory requirements, including the Public Records (Scotland) Act 2011, UK GDPR, and the Data Protection Act 2018. To support this obligation, the Council has historically maintained contractual arrangements to facilitate the secure disposal of confidential waste across the organisation. This requirement also aligns with wider industry expectations and recognised standards, including relevant ISO certifications, established security protocols, and best practice in records management. The materials disposed of through these processes may include personal data as well as commercially sensitive information, all of which require robust safeguards throughout the disposal lifecycle.
