The scope of this contract covers the support for the Oracle on premise databases. These are used to deliver University systems by providing the underlying data layer. The licences are perpetual; this contract cover support only.

### Procurement Information

The replacement of the current Oracle database infrastructure with other technologies would require substantial work over several years. Currently the University have a number of critical systems with dependencies on the Oracle technology. To move from this would require a complete revision and overhaul of University's digital architecture and recoding of all supported solutions at a substantial cost and a timescale of ~5 years. A move from this technology may be possible in the longer term and the future strategy for these databases will be reviewed. Given the current dependencies the University cannot accept the risk of moving to third party support.
